The Slovak Badminton Federation organized the BEC Regional Project (financially supported by Badminton Europe) from 3 to 10 August 2014. The training camp took place in the Slovak Badminton Federation’s Badminton Centre, in Prešov. The project included U15 players from five different countries: Belarus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Nine boys and twelve girls attended the training, where - besides the hard sessions - the players experienced a lot of fun. The training session were realised by main coach Wenyan Li, who is a former Chinese national team player, now operating in Denmark. Six additional coaches from the participating countries were accompanying the players during the week.

Experimental scoring system tested

The players were divided into boys and girls groups, they trained an average of six hours per day, where the trainings consisted of various exercises and badminton games. They mainly used multi-feeding and two against one exercises for the development of both attacking and defending. During the morning sessions, the focus was very much on singles technique, while in the afternoon the practice sessions were mainly about footwork, also involving fitness trainings in the gym. Players also had the chance to play matches against each other, to try out the experimental scoring system 5x11. Three times during the week morning runs were scheduled, where the goal was to improve the speed.

Besides the hard work, the participants had the chance to relax as well. In the middle of the week, they've been visiting the aqua park of Presov and the organizers also prepared a barbecue party for all participants.

The project was a great success, both players and coaches enjoyed their time together. We would like to thank all involved players and coaches, and hope this camp will also help the players in their further progress.
